What is Limelight?
Limelight is an online mechanical licensing utility allowing indie artists, record labels, worship groups, school ensembles, and others to easily clear cover songs and pay royalties to publishers and songwriters. We believe there are millions of artists that want to cover songs from your catalog and pay royalties. Limelight brings these artists together, aggregating royalties due to you (the publisher).
The service was launched in 2010 and is currently being used by musicians/artists in all 50 U.S. states and 96 countries worldwide.
What is the Royalty Plus program and how does it help publishers?
Royalty Plus is a new revenue stream created by Limelight. In exchange for basic catalog information and marketing, publishers are compensated with an additional revenue stream tacked on top of their mechanical royalties. This revenue stream is entirely supplemental to the millions of dollars in mechanical royalties being collected and paid out by Limelight.
What is the cost to opt-in to the program?
None! We are paid by the licensees (i.e. the artists, labels, distributors, and/or music services) to handle the administration of licensing and royalty reporting. We do not take any percentage of the royalties for ourselves - nor we do hold royalties or earn interest on accruals. We simply act as a conduit to efficiently connect licensees (artists, labels, distributors, music services) with licensors (publishers and songwriters).
Every dollar in royalties is paid straight through to you or your adminstrator.
What if I handle my mechanical licensing in-house or through a third-party entity?
You can still participate! The Royalty Plus program is non-exclusive, so you can opt-in to our affiliate / partner program and generate revenue regardless of any existing licensing arrangements.
