About Cover Story
We have a new video series here at Limelight HQ - sharing the stories behind the songs by the songwriters who wrote them. It’s called Cover Story, and after wrapping up the first one with our good friend, music visionary, songwriter, producer extraordinaire Richard Gottehrer , we decided it was too cool to keep under wraps.
"Cover Story" Episode 1: Richard Gottehrer
About Richard Gottehrer
Richard Gottehrer is Co-Founder & Chief Creative Officer of The Orchard. He began his career in the music industry as a songwriter, penning classics such as “My Boyfriend’s Back” and “I Want Candy,” and was an artist in the 1960s pop group, The Strangeloves. In 1996, he co-founded leading independent record label Sire Records with fellow luminary Seymour Stein. Sire was later sold to the Time Warner Corporation, and Mr. Gottehrer went on to make a name as a multi-platinum producer for well-known music acts, including Blondie, The Go-Go’s, The Raveonettes and Joan Armatrading before co-founding The Orchard in 1997.?
"Cover Story" Episode 2: The Song Project
We were excited to learn back in October that Jazz trumpeter Mark Rapp and guitar/vocalist Derek Lee Bronston, collectively known as The Song Project, would be releasing their new album, Art of the Song, vol. 1, not as individual MP3s, but as a digital album, a iPhone/iPad app via Apple’s App Store. The music is accompanied by photographs from Sean Mosher-Smith, who has provided artwork for projects from musicians such as Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, and K.T. Tunstall.
Art of the Song, vol. 1 contains uniquely arranged covers of popular songs from bands like Radiohead, AC/DC, and Tears for Fears, as well as four original compositions. Below, Mark explains the inspiration behind their arrangement of “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
