Clearance Alert: Scott Gagner Turns “Sweet Child o’ Mine” into a Gentle Lullaby

Post new comment

Clearance Alert is a joint weekly series with Cover Me, the leading online music blog about cover songs. Cover Me began in 2006 as a radio show about cover songs created and hosted by Ray Padgett. In the fall of 2007, Cover Me launched as a blog, posting daily news articles and features focusing on cover songs and tribute albums. A team of over a dozen writers and editors currently maintains the site, which has been featured on websites from Rolling Stone to USA Today. Visit their website here. Here is the latest featured artist:.

Slash pops up everywhere these days, appearing to play his “Sweet Child o’ Mine” lick whenever you say his name three times (see: Super Bowl). Thankfully, jolly old Vunter Slaush stayed dormant when Scott Gagner recorded his cover of the Guns n’ Roses classic. This delicate acoustic ballad would most certainly not benefit from top-hatted heroics. (more…)

Artist Spotlight: Nina Sainato

Post new comment

Nina Sainato

“I [Nina Sainato] grew up in small town north of Pittsburgh with an abundance of three things:  classical piano, Aerosmith, & meatballs.   My mother, a jazz pianist, taught me her secrets in the kitchen while my father was a rockin’ and rollin’ Harrison Ford look-alike and longtime player of the guitar, banjo, & mandolin.  He was my biggest fan and musical influence.  When I lost him to cancer at 17, I thought it was normal for Led Zeppelin to be played at the funeral.  It is safe to say that no cooler person ever lived on this earth, not even Steven Tyler.

I joined a band at 19 and welcomed the transition from classical pianist to pop/rock keyboardist & vocalist.  Since then, I have spent the last few years playing, singing, & collaborating with other artists, something I enjoy very much and hope to continue in the future.  That being said, after being filled to the brim with the voice of others, I am excited to explore my own.

I had a very unique upbringing, performing and competing as a poised piano prodigy, then coming home to rock and roll.  What I extracted from these two things is a great appreciation and love for melody in music.  A melody that is simple and strong will resonate and be remembered. That is what I believe, and what I hope you come to believe as I write and share music of my own.”

Band Name: Nina Sainato

Hometown: Pittsburgh

Influences: Aerosmith, Christina Aguilera, Linda Rondstadt

Cover Song Licensed: Rockin’ Little Christmas

Story Behind The Cover: “While putting songs together for my Christmas album, Holly and Ivory, I ran across this gem originally done by Deborah Allen in the 80s. My goal in music is to combine humor, fun, and the blues, and this song does it all, and appropriately so for the holidays. Hope you enjoy!

Here’s a little more info on the album itself:

‘Sainato’s new holiday album features 5 songs with a rock twist, one of which is a duet with Donnie Iris, and 5 piano instrumentals. Sainato’s arrangement of her album, appropriately titled Holly & Ivory, reflects her music foundation and background: her training in classical piano married with her knockout vocals stands to create a holiday album that will be able to be appreciated for many years to come.’”
