Name: Daniela Candillari

Hometown: Maribor, Slovenia

Influences: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Astor Piazzolla, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett

Cover Song Licensed: The Nearness of You

Story Behind the Cover:Even though “The Nearness of You” was recorded in the past, when I moved to Indiana to start my studies at the School of Music I decided to get to know the music of Hoagy Carmichael, who was one of Indiana’s most famous songwriters. Being away from home and my whole family, and basically completely by myself in a new country “The Nearness of You” turned out to be my favorite song; every time I would perform it, it gave me a feeling of being connected to those I love. The song speaks of romantic love and of longing for that special person, but to me it felt more like coming home.
